Today, pathetic.org has passed the 1,000,000th poem "read" on the site. Each time a poem is read on the site, that "read" is counted so that our members know what poetry of theirs is getting attention. Congratulations to all members of pathetic.org, without whom this milestone would not have been reached.

Your donation dollars at work - 09/25/2002

With the donations that came in this week I was able to purchase an advanced web traffic analysis program. If that's your thing, or you're just curious, you can find the sites stats at http://www.pathetic.org/Stats/. You can get to it via the About page as well. It updates every night at midnight pst, and unfortunately I had to reset the logs to get it to work with all the data we want to keep. Enjoy :)

For those of you on tight budgets, but looking for ways to become patrons, right now PayPal has a $5 signup bonus to become a member of their site, which ironically, is the same as the minimum amount to become a patron... :)
Poem of the Day History - 09/24/2002

I have just added the Poem of the Day history (found both in Poetry Center and at the bottom of the home page) and fixed the friends bug. You were actually all viewing my friends list which I had accidentally hard coded in the query! Sorry for the inconvience.
Problems with the Site? - 09/20/2002

Some of you are reporting problems with the site, such as the Poem and Journal entry areas being "read-only" and that the menu bar covers stuff up. Due to the DHTML & Javascript on the site, the site requires up-to-date browsers. You can update your browser at any of the following locations:

Formation of a Spotlight Committee - 09/19/2002

Now that we have the Member Spotlight function back, I am looking to form a Spotlight committee (of patron level members) who will be responsible for picking the monthly spotlights, creating all the content (interviewing the spotlighted, etc) and giving the content to me by the 25th of every month, for the next month. Members of the spotlight committee will not be allowed to be spotlighted themselves, while they are on the committee. So that we get a good solid rotation of people through the spotlight, members of the committee will only be allowed to serve for up to 6 months (which will allow them to be spotlighted as well). IÂm looking for 2-3 members to take up the first round of this. If you are interested, please get a hold of me.
Journals - 09/19/2002

You can now get back to using your Journals. In Member Tools > Your Journal you will find "Add Entry" and "Entry Index." A new feature from the old site is the ability to *gasp* edit your journals. And as in the Poetry editor, Patron members can edit their journals using a Word Like rich-text editor. Don't forget you can also embed your journals on your homepage using the "Member Tools > Website Tools > Embed Your Journal."

Ok, so I decided to bite the bullet and post the new site, since it's about 75% complete! What?!?! Well this way I'll be more inspired to continue to add features. Things will likely change on a day to day basis for the next week or so, so be patient with me. I have turned off new signups until we work through all the features and issues on the new site, and we have some changes planned for that area. For now, post your poetry, and enjoy the new features! Supporting Pathetic.org - 06/10/2002

Hey folks just wanted to follow-up on what John was trying to do with the message he moved to the top. I've been busy working on the new site and have some great things in store for all of you. All this hard work is paying off I think and I'm excited about the new version of the site. All your poetry and information will be moved over when I'm ready. This version of the site was built in 1999 or 1998, and I'm now building it using 2002 technology! This means better things for you, the members, including a windows based application for managing your poetry with spell checking and other neat features. Don't worry, if that's not for you, you can still use the website to post your poetry. I've also been working on a pathetic.org instant messenger for windows as well. There is lots of cool things in store for you. All that being said, our donations have slowed down after the initial period they were available. That may be because the patrons are not being publicly thanked. I assure you that they will be on the new site. If you have the ability to help out with keeping the site up and the hosting costs, it would be greatly appreciated. Not required in any way, just appreciated :) I am planning on implementing an Amazon.com associates setup on here too, that will help pay for the site by the books, etc you all buy, if you use our link! Thanks so much for being a member and I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have.
