With the Falling of the Autumn Leaf

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

Behind the falling curtains of Summer,
lurk the spirited days of autumn,
enthusiastically drawing, with every sunrise,
nearer to a time of animation.
A season when warm restless summer breezes
are casually coaxed away; playfully pausing...
before the chilling breath of winter comes to rest.

With every vibrant leaf, that is delicately teased
from the gracefully disrobing tree,
desperately clings a cherished summer memory,
silently drifting; struggling, voiceless in the wind,
to be pleasantly remembered...
before it is covered by the hostile cloak of winter.
