When your gaze shifts
From my eyes
To my mouth
And you lean in

In the quiet moments
Cuddled up on your lap
Just existing

In the shared heavy breaths
Still clutching each other tight
Finding our way back from oblivion

As I fall asleep
Your arm around me
Knowing I’m safe

As the space between my ribs
Expands with each breath
And I enjoy the precious agony
Of trying to carry my love for you
