Revisiting

by Richard Vince

Something will have changed,
Even if it is too small or hidden
For me to see it. Even if it is
Somewhere I have been before,
It is still somewhere new.

Rain prompts thoughts of
Revisiting, as if new places are
Only worth seeing in sunshine;
Perhaps I rely on memory to fill
The gaps hidden by raindrops,
Not trusting imagination to do the job.

In any case, the picture is
Often incomplete: condensation from
Previous cold, wet days adds
A tired graininess to images already
Suffering from a lack of light.

There is value, then, in taking
Another look, this time with
Eyes and heart more open, keen
To find what I missed before,
Waiting to see the old anew.
