I am a writer
Writer of poetry
Writer of images
Writer of personal journeys

I am not an entertainer
I am not a spoken Word Artist 
using hyperbole and tone
To accentuate written thoughts

I am a writer first last and always
Who questions if his words
Have meaning beyond
Verbs and adjectives 
Artfully articulated 

I question the worth
Of my personal reflections
To an audience of my peers
I am a writer 

Who is compelled to say
What my mind stirs 
Into motion, haunting
Me every minute
Every hour 
Every Day

Until I release the must do
From the swirling tsunami 
That is my mind
I am a writer

Whose compulsive addiction 
Is a release from the anguish
Portrayed in my mind’s eye 
As if the release is a natural high

I am a writer who understands 
Late in life that my work
Never defined me
Or the raw release of emotions

That has become necessary 
For my emotional survival
Expressed in poetic form
I am a writer first last and always
