Sunrise by Tom GossScintillating sleek skyscrapers
Line the horizon
And I am hungry for your fuel
Like a gas tank on empty
Burning palm trees in a smoky effigy
Of stolen tomorrows and unsaid goodbyes
When the man who had everything
Speaks only in a language of blackened halos
The only thing left to do
Is to press down on the accelerator
And yell like no one can hear you
How many times do I have to scrape the walls
As your face climbs the mountain of my heartbreak
All I can do
Is rain down upon the landscape
Of our painted past with a storm of regret
You were wearing black
And I couldn’t take my hands off your hips
Or my eyes off of the sparkle of mischief
That was dancing like spider eyes revealing a thousand yous
The broken memories on the floor
The throbbing feeling in my chest
Something’s got to give
Because I cannot live like this anymore
But still we dance
Inside the earthquaking halls
Of my dilapidated memory
And somehow if I’m honest
I still love what we were
A background chorus of smooth rhythms
Played out as the sands of time descend
Our hands intertwined
Our lips blooming as one
Underneath all this love napalm dynamite
We were immutable banshees screaming a whisper of delicate rainbows
In your arms
Soft against the bed
I believed in
