Fool’s Spring

by Richard Vince

The upper branches are still bare,
Gaunt against the bright sky,
But the trees have donned their
Fingerless gloves of ivy, dressed up
For the season as the world
Awakes from its winter slumbers.

Soon, the days will be long in
Possibility, and I will have another
Chance to learn to enjoy without
Feeling pressure to fill every single
Moment of daylight.

For now, the Sun sets late enough
To give me a full day without
Pushing me to do too much.
If this is fool’s spring then I am
Thoroughly, willingly taken in,
Taking this moment for what it is,
Enjoying it while it lasts.
