Drowsy

by Richard Vince

It seems I am allergic to
Sleep: when it approaches,
I back hastily away and
Choose something else.

There are so many other
Options; perhaps something
In me refuses to take
The one that inevitably
Excludes all others.

And, of course, losing sleep
Makes it harder to find,
The cycle becoming
Increasingly vicious with
Each squandered night.

The world is huge,
And so there will still be
Most of it unexplored,
No matter how many hours
I stay awake.

What? So many books, so little time. :) This goes deeper than lack of sleep, this stalwart wait for what, for who?
