Spelling by Richard VinceAs much as I was misunderstood,
I cannot pretend that I was
Never an idiot. My absolute
Conviction that I knew better
Could still return to expose me
Years after I thought it gone.
Perhaps this is why I try
So hard with names:
A determination to atone for
Possibly the stupidest thing
I have ever said to anyone.
So convinced was I that I was
Right, I still cannot remember
Which spelling was real and which
Was imagined or misremembered
From the crossing of an invisible line
No one thought to tell me was there.
Another old feeling came back
That day: the sense of being
Out of place, out of step
With everyone else, even
Those I thought were friends.
They knew the rules but
I did not even know there was
A game, and so I always
Did it wrong no matter
How long I played.

Wow, this last stanza specially. The first two lines going to the rest until conclusion. I used to be embarrassed a lot too until I learned most people don’t give an f lol. Now I’m older it’s reversed idgaf and that embarrasses most people in my behalf hehe. |
