Flashes from another Time

by Thomas K. Hunt

He has flashes from another time
Younger days when he had a sharpened mind
Strong and adventurous with the sun in his face
Now reduced to this lonely thoughtless place

Alone behind his eyes
It seems something is missing or something has died
An old man from a time long gone
He used to be a thinking man but now his thoughts don't stay long

Strange happenings that play with his mind
He reaches for thoughts that he can't seem to find
His thoughts disappear in the blink of his eye
Leaving only flashes from another time

Familiar images glanced at in frames
Faces remembered but lost are the names
He greets each sunrise lost in his fear
He’s unrecognizable to the man in the mirror

He’s alone in his mind
Frustrated and scared all the time
Blank stares at nothing from across the room
Stuck inside his own living tomb

He speaks but he’s incomplete
Unable to finish because his thoughts don’t meet
He struggles but he gives up fast
As fast as his thoughts will last

He was nothing but kind throughout his long life
Raised his children and had a loving wife
They’re gone now, lost within his mind
Reduced to only flashes from another time
