Thanks for Dropping by, Mom

by Thomas K. Hunt

I saw your face in a dream last night
When everything was still
Your soft brown eyes sparkled in the porch’s light
As I walked down from the hill

Upon your face was your beautiful, warm smile
I hadn’t seen it in quite a while
It calmed me down when I was a child
Thanks for dropping by, mom

I only see you in my sleep
Sometimes, I wake up, and I can’t help but weep
Then I realized you’re still here every day
You live in my heart and dreams in a very special way

I know you drop in and checkup on me
I see you in my dreams and everything in between
I feel your presence; I know you’re with me
You’ve guided me to where I’m supposed to be

The day will come when I’ll be with you
We’ll hold each other like we used to do
A hug so tight that you lose your air inside
And show the love for a mother and son that will never be denied

I’m the man I am because of you
It’s never too late to tell it to you
You hear me, and I feel that’s true
Thanks for dropping by, mom
