Clayton by Thomas K. HuntThat used to be the boat line with the water trough full of beautiful live fish
At the bottom, it shined with coins as passing tourists made a wish
Now, there is an archway leading the way through the majestic Clayton Riverwalk to enjoy your river day
Watch the ships pass between the red and the green
And watch all the others in between
Sit and watch the sunset across the river sky with amazement as warm hues fill your eyes
Then night will fall, and the moon will rise
A million sparkling diamonds will fill the night sky
You smell the river with the wind in your face
It brings a warm smile because you're in the right place
It's not the same as when I grew up there, yet it's the same in many ways
Family and friends that live in love make that easier every day
That used to be the post office, but now it's River Rat cheese
Across the alley before the Lyric was Bertrand's movie theater, where you could get kicked out if you sneezed
The IGA's wooden wagon made grocery deliveries with my best friend pushing it uphill
Now and then, he'd overload it, and things would start to spill
Breakfast at Bernice's was as home as you could get
A highlight of my day, she made me want to get out of bed
Clayton should be proud of the way she stands with the best
Her restoration has well surpassed the test
Still, the best place to raise a child
They all seem to return from the wild 10/04/2024 Author's Note: irr:
