The Corruption of Adam by Ryan NardiIf I kiss your forehead while you sleep,
is that for you or for me?
If I touch your shoulder when you weep,
is that for you or for me?
If I try to listen carefully,
knowing that's the noble thing,
or give you little gifts and hugs,
hoping I'll be paid in love,
If I let you step upon my feet,
not complain but call you sweet,
when I smile at your darling cheeks,
is that myself I see?
No one taught me how to care.
I think I try, but everywhere
are mirrors of my jealousy,
my bleeding heart, and crooked teeth.
I want to be the one to show you
all the things that life withholds,
but I'm afraid I'll never know
if it's for you or for me? 07/18/2024 Posted on 07/18/2024 Copyright © 2026 Ryan Nardi
