That’s a Rap

by Johanna May

If you put a beat to iamb,
You put beak and a song to a lamb.
Even weak to the slang,
basic, rosy not sick,
but you’re hard up then your flow
has some fang.

Then you inject some Tao te Ching,
some bling bling, da boom da bing.
Full of wisdom and rizz,
Ears bleed from your diss.

And you can take this:
“this”.

And make it king,
or loud enough
for all history to hear.

Because poets know in general,
words can be their arsenal.

Sorcerers put a rhyme to
a string of them to cast a spell.
Rappers strung them up
like jewelry to sell.

If you put a beat to iambic,
you better have a life that
can stand to it.
