Cheese Burger Boy

by Johanna May

This random day bub
is kept solid inside my Hippo’s Campus.
Prism of silly, from your cheesy fluffy hug,
to your smile without conditions,
while we laugh without dignity.
Because there are contrasts I know too well,
some days like today is a prayer
you say for everybody else bereft of one.

Will you read this someday
with a heart that understands
such abundance?
There is no loss in life lived this way.
We are on par to where happiness
hitch its name, way up high.
Our day is equal to any day
bookmarked by history.

Close your eyes cheese burger boy.
Let tenderness seep through beyond,
until it reaches somewhere hopeless.
