The Corner of Mary and Alexandria St by Thomas K. HuntOnce again, I find my feet on the corner of Mary and Alexandria St
Memories flood my mind as I have found my true heartbeat
Memories too many to remember
From cub Scouts and being a bartender
All the faces along the way
Some have faded, and so many came to stay
Yes, once again, I am home
I smell the river as I'm writing this poem
Back to the islands that have been my life’s inspiration
Back to my roots and all my generations
Back to the place that holds a piece of my heart
Back to the place where I got my start
Once again, I find my feet on the corner of Mary and Alexandria St
Checking for familiar faces for a chance to meet
It’s been a while, and I’m to blame
It took me a while to find that life is not a game
Throughout my journey, there’s been one constant pain
It’s from missing the river and dancing in a cool summer rain
Yes, once again, I am home
Back from where I have roamed
Back where I’m never alone
Back where I belong
Back to all of my lifelong friends
Back where the love never ends
Yes, I’m back home again
It’s been far too long
Once again, I found my seat on the corner of Mary and Alexandria St.
Where dinner is served where I used to lay my head and sleep
Where childhood neighbors still live down the street
Where I took my first steps on my own two feet
The river runs through my veins
A constant flow that keeps me sane
Now I’m dancing again in a cool summer rain
I’d love to stay, but life gets in the way
There’s always a price that you have to pay
Now I have new memories to store
I’ll be back to create many more
This is where I’ll spend my last days
There’ll come a day when I’m back home to stay
I was home again, and now it feels like a dream
But I brought back some delicious pure maple cream
River rat curd and bologna from Croghan
And all the memories that I have uploaded
I got to eat the donuts from Burrville
I won’t say how many, but I got my fill
It was so nice to see who I saw
And the restored beauty of Clayton left me in awe 09/09/2023 Author's Note: lrr:
