We Salute You by Thomas K. HuntThe country’s first US army, brave and full of vigor
Fighting for our independence as they crossed the Delaware River
They fought our battles, and they won the war
Losing limbs and minds and so much more
Patriots that loved our country
They ran when they heard the call
Forming the world’s biggest military
Well prepared to die for us all
They filled the trenches in the fields of France
Lived and died between the barbed wire fence
Far away on a distant shore
Fighting the war to end all wars
They heard the call again in nineteen forty-one
December seventh, the war had just begun
They filled the Pacific and stormed the beaches of Normandy
Defeated evil so we all could be free
Once again, they heard the call
Come save Seoul and free us all
Keep us free and safe from all the reds
Ensure we’re all safe in our beds
Southeast Asia with steaming jungles and heat
The rain and rice patty fields that pruned their feet
Tunnel rats and booby traps always on the guard
Where young boys turned into men and still proudly wear their scars
They heard the call through the winds of a desert storm
Once again, they served and kept us from harm
Volunteered their duty with pride and respect
They deserve all the respect that they can get
Brothers that lost brothers return to tell their tales
They share their stories until they’re old and frail
Without our brave veterans, we would not be free
Listen to their stories; they’re there for you and me
Sacrifices, too many to count
White crosses across the landscaped ground
Tears fill the golden stars
Blood still flows through the purple hearts
They make their way by land, sea, or air
Where our freedom is threatened, they will always be there
God willing, they will all return
War is a lesson we’ve never learned
Every Veteran that served should have a say
They deserve their own holiday
Not just one day of the year
Every day they must be honored and cheered
