Autumn is Here Now

by Thomas K. Hunt

Autumn is here now
Again, the foliage creates a portrait of living colors
Beautiful bouquets resting in blue and touching the sky
An exhilarating sight that finds the heart through the eyes

Autumn is here now
Time for sweaters and wearing hats
The temperature declining with each passing day
Cooler whiffs in the daylight turn into colder winds when the moon shines high in the sky
The summer’s heat now cooled by the autumn breezes
The fall storms will make their last run on the river before it totally freezes

Autumn is here now
The season of the hunt
Hunters dream of it through winter, spring, and summer
Sitting in their blinds and searching for vees in the sky and taunting them with a call
Anglers bait their legends now that the oxygen is right
Hoping for that record breaker where it’s released to put up another fight

Autumn is here now
The gridiron now smells of sweat and grass
Cheers fill the air with joys and disappointments
Seniors in the stands wish they were young
Remembering their teammates and all the fun
Bonfires and pep rallies are designed to excite
The hope for victory on a cool autumn night

Autumn is here now
The season of the witches, ghouls, and black cats that screech
Young children dressed as their heroes and trick or treat
Filling up bags of goodies for the parents to enjoy
Pumpkin spice and apple cider enjoyed by girls and boys

Autumn is here now
Summer goodbyes have all been said in time
Now, only memories that forever live in our minds
Autumn’s always been my favorite season
I just thought I would pass on a few of my reasons
