I Turned Around and You Were Gone

by Thomas K. Hunt

You were the one that shared a soul with me
Now there’s an empty hole where you used to be
I turned around, and you were gone
I turned back, knowing something was wrong

You can’t take for granted any minute of the day
One minute can change you in every way
It is your sorrow, and it’s come to stay
Goodbye, I love you, and I will join you someday

Say hello to mother and put a smile on her face
I feel her guidance coming from outer space
She’s put me where I am today
Tell her I love her and miss her every day

They say there’s a reason for everything
We’ll all see it somehow
My eyes are filled with sorrowful tears
I can’t see anything right now

I turned around, and you were gone
It’s hard to understand what went wrong
I’m weak now where I used to be strong
Because you’re no longer where you belong

You were taken before your time
Now, you live in our hearts and minds
Memories shared with family and friends
All knowing that we’ll be together in the end

You will be missed and always loved
I’ll be waiting for the reason from up above
I see no reason yet, my faith is strong
I’ll be waiting for that reason to come along

Death is the hardest part of living for the loved ones left behind
The sadness overtakes the hearts and the minds
It can happen at any moment, in a blink of the eye
Leaving of us with broken hearts and always wondering why

We’ll find comfort from the knowing hearts
The true ones that have cared right from the start
Connecting hearts that will never part
They help put us back together when we fall apart
