Home in the Islands Again

by Thomas K. Hunt

I'm back on the streets where I first laid my feet
Back in the hood, and it's feeling so good
Back home with all my family and friends
I'm back home in the islands again

It's been too long since I've been back
My longing to return has never lacked
Now here I am, right where I need to be
Back in the islands with you beside me

Smiles now surround me that I've longed to see
Souls that are connected once again close to me
This is the way it's supposed to be
It's the only place where I feel like me

Back home in the islands again
On the St Lawrence River, where the fishing never ends
I'll be on my way to Potters Beach
Let everyone know I'll be out of reach

The streets have changed since I was a boy
What they've done here brings so much joy
I've always been proud to call Clayton my home
It's for reasons like this, and I'm not alone

As I walk down Riverside Dr, memories turn to visions
seen through my mind's eye
Taking me back to comfort and the innocence of mine
Holiday parades and a fish on the line

On a sunny day when the sky was blue
I remember a day on the river with you
I looked at you and saw a true blue friend
It's nice to be back home in the islands again
