A Brief Glimpse Of Neurodivergence Appears Like A Shaft Of Light In The Photon-Starved Darkness
A world waiting to shatter,
high definition pictures of the atmosphere
pregnant with the crimson bruises
of temporal estrangement
motions destructive
isolation seductive
into the mind's vibrating eye
I journey
a portent of shuddering violence
manifests as a ferocious gristle of fear
torn from this cowardly shipwreck of a soul
and left to rot in the full wicked smile
of the serrated sunlight;
a harmony
turned into stench
a calm
violated
a whisper like a bullet
to the back of the head
and it's just another moment
spent as the strawman plaything
of the insidious monster of OCD
where thoughts
are indestructible boomerangs
and the mind's best intentions
are weaponized:
a harmony
turned into stench
a calm
violated
a whisper like a bullet
to the back of the head

Posted by Nadia Gilbert Kent on 06/19/22 at 04:12 AM Ha. How awfully relatable. I appreciate how you're (or your character is) in this piece without being overly self-referential -- not the easiest thing to do when sketching out one's innards. I think this really speaks to the breadth of anxiety experienced in periods of spiralling. The section "and it's just another moment//
spent as the strawman plaything//
of the insidious monster of OCD" broke the flow a bit for me. I like the idea of likening OCD to a monster. It might be helped by trimming some of the language down that doesn't directly involve the imagery. Just a thought. Well done. |
