I try to get him to sleep
under any circumstances:
swaying, rocking softly,
or in a chair, upright,
the sounds of the world
creaking and decaying.

The best nights are when
he falls asleep laughing:
something I can't see,
a subversion of expectations
I can't even fathom,
and it is hilarious.

That in itself doesn't get him to sleep,
but it is nice.
