Secret

by Richard Vince

This is a world I never found
A way into, even though I went
To all the right places.

Perhaps I was never told
The magic words that could
Open the hidden portal
(Wherever it was) and let me
Cross to the other side.

Perhaps someone would have
Shared the secret with me
If only I had been able
To engage them in conversation.

Perhaps I could have made
Some sort of connection if
I had known how to dress,
How to talk like I was
Already part of it.

This world, it seems, was
Never for me at all, and so
I am left in my own,
Wondering why I never learned
To be happy here.

It was not the right tribe, maybe there is one. Maybe the promise/idea of the right one is enough. Thanks for this too!
