Trust

by Richard Vince

Every day is full of cracks
That could be levered apart,
Opened into opportunities
To hide another life.

But I will not take them.
Even if she would not know,
I would.

Trust has always been vital,
But it is only now that
It is a real part of my life
Rather than something I tried
To have by believing hard
In spite of the evidence.

It helps to know that
Nowhere could be better
Than this still unexpected
Place I find myself.

Perhaps home is merely
The place you can go to
Without having to leave
Any part of you behind.
