That Old Photo

by Thomas K. Hunt

I saw myself looking back at me, and I saw myself in my eyes
It was a photograph from over forty years ago
Well before I said my last goodbyes
My eyes were much brighter, yet my future wasn’t crystal clear
They’re still my eyes and mine alone that sees the beauty that surrounds us here
That old photo took me for a ride back to my days at river side
Lost in the childhood fun and games, we even played outside in the rain
Hide and Seek, Red Rover, Simon says tell another lie
Apple peaches pumpkin pie who’s not ready holler I
So much fun seen with these eyes that are lost to the innocence yet lives inside memories that never die

High school dances where the cool guys stood and watched
Hopping over sidewalks chaulked out for Hop Scotch
Boat rides in the summer that lasted from dawn to midnight
The crispness of winter where you see your breath in the silver moonlight
That old photo evoked so many smiles
Remembering memories, I haven’t thought of in a while
There’s so much beauty, just open your eyes
Share your love for family and all the friends by your side
Make your own memories that you’ll remember in your beyond
Throw away all the bad ones and keep the good ones for later on
