What’s Between Us

by Johanna May

Prior to this varied
barrier:
plain, patterned, medical grade.

We share one
unseen blanket.

Rich or poor,
whatever race or creed.
Serf or sir,
it seeps between the cracks
we create
or seal.

Air, mother of what
we do not see
is there.
