I'm Coming Home to Stay

by Thomas K. Hunt

Life took hold and kept me away from home
And now I'll be home and never need to roam again
Well, let me tell you how it is, my friend

Some thoughts have escaped my mind
It seems more are disappearing as I'm running out of time
I think back, and yes, they're gone, and it doesn't feel like it's been that long

My mind escapes me, and I play along with the game
I remember your face, but I'm short on your name
Oh yes, now I remember, and I smiled as I teared
How have you been my friend these many long years

Familiar faces and childhood places all this will be coming to me
It's been too many years and too many tears not to be where I'm supposed to be
Nothing but friends and family and new love along the way
I'll be home, and I'll never be alone with a beautiful smile
Smiling at me everyday

I've been dreaming of this day since that first night away
and now my dream will become a reality
My life will now be complete
I'll be back on the streets where I became me

The old days are gone but never forgotten
Laughter and sorrow have filled my days
I'll be home for good, and that's for certain
It took just one smile to send me on my way

I'll be back for the duration where you'll see my smiling face
I've often wondered if you still live at the same place
No, it's not just a vacation I'll be there everyday
It may take a year or two, but I'm coming home to stay

A shout out to everyone that brought me here today
I'll meet you anytime you want on the bridge over French Creek Bay
