In My Mind ..Revisited

by Thomas K. Hunt

In my mind, I'm home among the islands
It's been that way for all of my time
In my mind, I'm home with my family and friends
I've lived away but not in my mind

To live there, you would know
The river flows and takes hold
Go on and test your wings
You'll fly back when you know what I mean

The heart's still heavy when it's only half full
Always in the middle between push and pull
No footprints to follow
Finding your own way
Working through the struggles of each and every day

In my mind, I'm home among the islands
Where I whaled out my very first cry
It wasn't that it hurt so bad
It was the first slap that I had ever had

There's no better joy than being a river boy
Learning the dangers, having fun and so much more
Becoming one with the islands like their fathers and their fathers before

A true river rat through and through
That's right; I'm talking about you
You know exactly what I'm talking about
It's deep within our souls and will never get out

My peace of mind is right around this corner
I like to believe that as I grow older
Sitting back in our rocking chairs
You'll be right there watching ships pass by with smiles in our eyes

Our noses up in the clean northern air
Rocking away without a care
You'll find me smiling all of the time
Because I'll be home with you and not only in my mind

In my mind, I'm home among the islands
Witnessing the beauty in the sunset of a day
Catching boats before they get under way
I've said enough; there's nothing more to say
