Farewell to Faye by Richard VinceThere is nowhere you could have
Taken me that would have been
Better than here, now, in
September sunshine with my
Small travelling home beside me.
You move people with aeroplanes
Now, but back then it was
Your voice, your smile that
Transported me. Years later,
I remembered at just the
Right time to find hope again.
It was a false dawn, of course:
A decision that ceased to be
Mine as soon as it was made.
This time, I was there
Not unwittingly for you, but
Consciously for me.
A later generation of your kin
Drew my nostalgic eye briefly
Before I rejoined the present.
Perhaps you still lunch on
The beach occasionally; if so
You will not see me, for I am
Long gone, disappeared into
The sunrise you so rarely see.
