All The What Ifs

by Thomas K. Hunt

You sit there thinking about all the what ifs
What if you turned right when you should have turned left
There was never a reason for you to hide
I was hoping we could meet on the other side

The same unanswered questions have been lingering for years
The same old questions that hold the same old fears
You’ve been here before, and you never wanted to come back
You looked away and lost sight of that fact

You looked back, and it was all a blur
You didn’t know which way to turn
Now you’re here where you are, and you don’t know how
The voice in your head is asking what to do now?

You went out too far and dropped out of sight
all the while knowing wrong from right
Choices were made, and deadlines were met
It doesn't matter what you put in; you only get what you get

You’ve been living between two parallel worlds
with totally different boys and girls
Some from where you came from and some from where you are
Some that make the same wish on the same shooting star
It’s hard to fathom that we’ve all gotten this far

There is but just one path to follow, and that is your own
Make it wide and never shallow, and may it always lead you home
There’s only one place where you feel right, and that’s your home in the islands on a 1000 islands night under the comfort of her peace and calm, lovingly holding you from dusk until dawn

Still, the questions linger in the air
It doesn’t matter if you’re here or there
You know there’s so much more than this
There’s more to life than all the what ifs
