Caresses

by Brian Francis

I wanted to sit down here and write a song.
I wanted to sing a song, a song about you,
about when you first took my hand in yours,
when your eyes then gripped me hard--
And you ripped my will in two.

Slave, is such a petty word when describing love
Yet, what is that devotion you draw from me?
Absolute, ready to sacrifice at a moment’s note
You have surely bound my soul
Yet you have set me free

I was addicted to the dance of life’s discovery
Biding time at its buffet tasting everything.
Laughing and having a great fun time
Drinking myself into a pit
Hearing only my pain echoing

Like an electric strike of primordial lightning
Even my first sight of you buckled my knees
I sat down at a table and held tight for stability
Until you came to me smiling
Offered a hand saying “if you please”

We danced, and you pulled in tight against me
My heart quivered and nearly failed a beat
Your breath warm upon my neck; stroking
My vision was spinning around
But for the rhythm of our feet

The smell of peach blossoms drifts from you
I nuzzle against your warmth and softness
Absorbing every moment's expression sung
That stirring comes to your touch
As I dissolve into your caress
