Beautiful Souls

by Thomas K. Hunt

We don’t know yes, no one does
We try not to think of such things
It’s harder for the living to live with the pain
and the deep, deep sorrow that death may bring

Beautiful souls that once shared our time
Here one moment then disappear with no sign leaving only their reflections in our minds
They’ve become a part of our hearts
There they’ll live forever, never to part

Moments in time that will never be forgotten
Smiles and laughter, sorrows and tears
Memories pulled from the passing of the years
Gone but not forgotten are only words to say
They’ll never be forgotten until our dying day

Beautiful souls that now live on walls and mantles preserved in frames
Images of who we knew and remembering all their names
We live with the question of what could have been
We live our lives while missing all of them

We don’t know yes, no one does
We try not to think of such things
It’s harder for the living to live with the pain
and the deep, deep sorrow that death may bring
