Muddy When Wet by Thomas K. HuntMuddy when wet
Dusty when dry
It may change in the blink of an eye
That doesn’t mean you stop trying
It’s all down hill and you’ve been climbing
You fell so far that you lost sight
You turned left when you should have turned right
You fell farther each and every night
You never lost touch and you began to write
Distant memories flood your mind
They take you to the river and home every time
Faces in the nights light that fade from your dreams
when something isn’t quite right, things are not what they seem
You write what you see from these passing visions
Keeping in mind you’ve made all the decisions
You’re where you are because of you
You’re the only one who did what you do
The years have been no friend but a foe
It got that way the farther you would go
You can’t escape this life that you chose
Only you have decided which way it goes
There are mysteries that will never be solved
even though you’re the only one involved
You wonder about this and you regret not doing that
Everyone lives with regrets and that’s a matter of fact
You keep your hopes and dreams alive in your rhymes
You share it with other so they remember their times
You make some smile while others shed some tears
You take them back to their memories from their years
You dream of your times spent as a youth
then you spread it across paper laying down your truth
The real truth to the fact is there truly are regrets
The farther you go may be as lost as you get
Muddy when wet
Dusty when dry
There’s always that lingering question why
It will follow you until the day you die
but you’re not ready to say goodbye
