I'll Be Back To Stay

by Thomas K. Hunt

I looked back at the river on that late October day
I knew I had to go, but I knew I'd be back some day
I touched down in the land of sunshine
I remember what I thought about
I thought to myself from now on; I'll have to learn to live without
This world keeps spinning everything in every way
The river still flows through my veins today

Freedom suffers another loss
The eagle’s in constant flight
Security is covered by the cost
We pay for the land, water, and our rights
Earpieces request questions
Words convert to rings
Emotions play with everything, not just material things
Every day is a battle in an undeclared war
We are forced to fight with less as we struggle to generate more

Footsteps on the sidewalk, a note left on a door
Ten days before the deadline, then look for nothing more
Look for nothing more
I looked back when I turned away
I know the day will come that I'll be back to stay
I went and missed it for a lifetime, although it never left my heart, and it's always on my mind
This world within my life keeps spinning everything every day
Putting up walls, dividing halls, and keeping me at bay
Keeping me away

Their trail's gone cold. I can rest a while
They have no idea that I'm less than a mile
I've stayed ahead of them for so long now
No need to worry I can teach you how
No, I'm sorry, that's not me
I'm still spinning; I'm not quite free
Don't you worry, I'm sure you've heard me say
I know the day will come that I'll be back to stay
I'm sure you've heard me say, time and time again
I'll be back to the river to stay, my friend
