Give Me a Toasted Cheese Sandwich by Thomas K. HuntI sat down to a toasted cheese sandwich
and the overhead projector was all I could see
I closed my eyes and was taken back
to Edsel saying, "don't go pugh to me"
You're one of the ones who gets it
You know what I'm talking about
You've been here since the beginning
Some stayed home while others stepped out
We're different models that made the same mistakes
We have a friendship that no one could break
So many memories that make us smile
We remind each other every once in a while
Give me a toasted cheese sandwich
I'll eat it right over here
It doesn't matter where you are Mars, Moon, or Rosiere
Cross ventilation is not all right
It looks like Cabby wants to start a fight
It's hard to believe it happens to you and me
but Ma actually walked out on us in eight three
That same year we hung Nathan Hale
Duff said to let him swing history doesn't mention bail
There's always something that sends us back
There are so many things, and that's a fact
Don't buy your sakes from across the border
We all know who said "you're out of order"
The smallest things that bring a smile
are still sent long distance over many miles
Androids and apples place them at finger tips
Now and then, we all get one from Rip
It may be a song we shared when it was new
or it could be a fool who got turned into a newt
We appreciated the humor and thought it clever
After all, the fool got better
Give me a toasted cheese sandwich
I'll eat it right over here
It doesn't matter where you are Mars, Moon, or Rosiere
So many memories that reappear in our minds
by just a phrase that takes us back in time
Camped on an island and waking at dawn or
the sunburned faces between identical bookends on the capitol lawn
