To Me by Brian Francis
I remember the day that you were born
Your angry demeanor and face of scorn
Rage was captured in swaddling clothes
Laid before me lividly, in heated repose
Prodded by the nurse, I reached down
Within my hands the purest joy was found
Our eyes embraced and you were soothed
I just stood there my thoughts confused
The hurt within somehow was shooed away
No room for pain as love claimed sway
Your eyes your smile indispensable to me
As you became my purpose so totally
I remember the day that you were born
My heart was dark and so full of scorn
Your touch released from deep within
Those taunting anchors the scars of sin
I learn of love each time you touch my hand
And when your eyes meet mine, I comprehend
You are my life’s most perfect gift, saving grace
you touch my soul when I see your loving face
