I am his Hero by Brian Francis
He’s held my hand for so long now
He seems a part of me somehow
His smile turns the night to day
I want to do everything his way
He has to run to keep up with me
For every step I take it’s three
That his little legs must also take
A marathon racer he might make
Yet he doesn’t cry he just endures
He runs ahead waits by the door
Calling me to come to him
Who needs a workout in the gym
And his smile out shines the sun
His thunderous giggle is filled with fun
And here I stand in his warming light
Having covered him late in the night
He is my hero he saved me from myself
Giving me purpose he restored my health
Making me so want to rally to live again
To share my life with this boy my friend
He gets mad at me so he throws a fit
Becomes my angry little hypocrite
His tears bore holes through my heart
But I must stay strong and do my part
His future depends on me to show him how
A man should be, help him learn it now
Honor and integrity help a man stand tall
Earns the respect of others, most if not all
But am I worthy to be the man that he sees
When he looks up and sets his gaze on me
Could it possibly be that it’s all about love?
My willingness to sacrifice all, place him above
Lightening flashed, a storm late in the night
The door creaked open there was no light
He crossed the floor as the storm sang
Crawling into bed when the thunder rang
I pulled him close tight against my chest
Held him in the raging night, I did my best
And oh how I love him, his hero in the storm
A place to abide that is both safe and warm
