redefine: borders

by Aaron Michael

the earth is thirsty
crusted skin like Saharan sands
and lifeblood inking,
staining her story with throes
that may buck us off before
we ride down our dreams.

there is so little between
earth and space
and so much forgotten,
wanton dualities

like the water so necessary
carves canyons
and the blood so precious
kills millions
and the flock of sheep
left to guard the sleeping shepard
have fallen prey to each other.

all that is left staunching the world
are the blades we sank to claim our space
