Your Truth

by Thomas K. Hunt

Here's something where you may relate
You'll find yourself make no mistake
You'll find your truth in what I say
You'll find you've grown up the very same way

I give thanks to my family and to the friends I've made along the way
Without your love and guidance, I wouldn't be who I am today
I have so much to live for
I'll die a happy man
This is exactly what I had planned

It started out with dad and mother
Respect was taught and earned
Two sisters and a brother
They're still here at every turn

Growing up with my growing pains
Lots of freedom but still held by the reins
Learned the difference between wrong and right
We sang a hand me down dixie lullaby on those special family nights

Planted in my memory is that first day of school
Our worlds collided; it was all brand new
Bonded friendships forged in a day
I have so many more brothers and sisters today

Cruised through adolescence
Floated on a breeze
It was the best of times
It was the time I became me

I wouldn't change a single thing
My lifelong friends are everything
I wouldn't have it any other way
That's why I'll die happy on my dying day

I'm not planning to leave for a while
But when I go, I'm going out in style
Throw me where you threw Captain Paul
He'll welcome me home as you have yourselves a ball

Tears of laughter will only be allowed
Though a good cry would do me proud
This is all coming out with the smile on my face
As my thoughts ponder my final resting place

There's still a lot more smiling to do
There'll be other times for me and you
Though we've lost some time along the way
We'll make up for it on some happy day

In the beginning, I said you may relate
I think it comes down to a simple twist of fate
I told you you'd find your truth
You found your truth back in your youth
