Best Friends

by Thomas K. Hunt

A twist of fate that was no mistake
brought me to you
and all the good times that we went through
I'd do it again and you would to

I go back in my mind to our place in time
when we hung out winter, spring, summer, and fall
Where we were soldiers in combat
Cowboys at the draw
Campers in the woods on islands big and small

Spent our summers on diamonds
sharing each others mitts
Calling out no chips on windows
every time we got up to hit

Winters on the ice
Falls on the fields
Springtime on the river
waiting for that summertime feel

I go back in my mind to our river in time
We were truly friends
We made a pact way back when that we'd stay friends to the very end

Some bonds may never be broken
We're living proof of that
I know this to be true
I know this to be fact

I'm sending this message out to you
It's just something that true friends do
Underneth the slience of our past
survives a love that was meant to last

I go back in my mind to our place in time
Our faces smiling under the sun
Lost in the innocents
Lost in our fun

Shared moments shared by only two
Secrets held by just me and you
We found shelter from the cold and danced in the rain
We skipped stones and lived through our growing pains

A twist of fate that was no mistake
I'm so grateful I grew up with you
and all the good times that we went through
I'd do it again and you would to
