Sleep Eludes Me (revisited) by Thomas K. HuntSleep eludes me
It's five AM again
The days just use me
They make me who I am
I am what they want me to be
A prisoner of circumstance
on the other side of time
someplace back in my mind
Looking back at wasted space
Counting the wrinkles on my face
I've been where the wind blows
I've seen where this road goes
You only know your own time
It's only you in your mind
Does sleep elude you?
Can you tell me what to do?
Do you have a secret that works for you?
Do you understand what I'm going through?
I'm lost in a haze
I'm feeling wired
I can't fall asleep
I'm so damn tired
I laid my head down hours ago
and allowed myself to fall
Did away with all sound
It did no good at all
Slumber can't find me
Is it looking for me at all?
I'm here again, and it's five AM
Is there someone I can call?
It's not fair; I want to fall asleep
I want to close my eyes and dream
It's been so long, much more than a week
Even longer than that, so it seems
Hey, if this sounds like you, let's compare some notes
Who knows, we might find an antidote
I'd love to fall asleep with you
I'm always up for something new
Did I just say that out loud?
I'm sure I'm not dreaming
yet my head's in the clouds
Sometimes I feel like screaming
but around here, that's not allowed
Sleep eludes me
It's five AM again
Life just uses me
It makes me who I am
I want to be lost in the darkness behind the eyes
Where visions appear from the other side
Vivid dreams that seem so real
but there's no touch, but there's still feel
This is what I'm talking about
It's something we can't live without
I want to be sound asleep with my pillow under me
I need to get my sleep and get lost in a dream
It's really not as easy as it seems
Dreams can be far and few between
If you were me, you'd know what I mean
I need to fall asleep and get lost in a dream
Sleep eludes me
It's five AM again
The days just use me
They make me who I am
