Aratron's Legions

by Brian Francis

Four hundred ninety, a legion sent forth
seeking the one who rings true
the words of the prophecy spoken aloud
command with reproach
the forty-nine to stand back restraining
the forty-two princes pledged so
and they did

in seeking they sought that glimmer of hope
but blinded by focus, they could barely see
strife the the measure of cast and lot
they looked among the devoted and pledged
those healthy and full with joy in their hearts
those contented with life as it appears to be
when they did

From the stars they settled like dust on the earth
a glimmer of the powers in their transparency
there is space in the atom called the within
wherein movement is a possibility between and around
even in hard stone and rock the space still exists
through walls they can drift undaunted by touch
so they did

The North and the South the East and the West
The Seven hold the secret hidden from sight
Fate began casting twists to some lives
confusing the minds and destinies sent forth
when promise for them was a delusion unseen
Fate's intersession found them kneeling
where they did

In the night they toy, they play with our dreams
they can tickle truth from a relaxed resting mind
witness a mercy entangled in fright's lonely moments
a savior appearing to ward off the danger
touches embraces engulfs the mind with pleasure
releases the inhibitions cutting restraints
So they dreamed
