Winter Rains by Brian Francis
Rainy days when the birds lay low
when clouds hover and shed their loads
A time to settle and contemplate life
or cuddle with a companion friend
Nature's steady rhythmic staccato
the drips and dribbles of rain's flow
The soothing comfort of a furry cuddle
curled in your favorite chair; relaxed
Drifting through a listless morning
not awake nor asleep just so
the unnerving sense - unsettled
a whispered tickle bothers the mind
Until it is heard that screaming warning
the cry of a kettle ready to pour
A favorite cup the scent of the steep
with cream, sugar - warming the hands
