She Doesn’t Have to Sing Out Loud

by P.T. Brooks

She said you looked like a good night
And bad day I’ve had
And when I saw you
It seemed to
Somehow bring me back
She said you taste like the sunlight
On a Sunday afternoon
And feel like the star light
Covering the moon

She doesn’t have to sing out loud
Every time she smiles there’s a symphony of every sound
And she doesn’t have to walk on clouds
But you’d bet your soul you’d never see her feet touch solid ground
She didn’t have to love me
Inside the circumstance
But she chose to love me
Then we chose to dance

She said if you need to
I’ll need you
Just tell me where to hold
And if the pain hurts
We’ll play a verse
That turns this city gold
She said if you want me to love you
Just show me how to love
And I’ll show you I’m the dream
That you’ve been dreaming of

She doesn’t have to touch you
For you to know she’s there
She just has to know you
And she hears your every prayer
I never claimed to be the nice guy
Wearing a different hat
And in her eyes she’s mystified
And that’s what brings her back

She said if you want me to lay here
And not say a word
You could tell me what you’re dreaming
And I’ll answer you unheard
She doesn’t have to sing out loud

Author's Note: This song is a revised version of "she said", a piece I wrote several years ago. If you happen to read both please let me know if the changes work. Thanks for reading.
