Gold

by Richard Vince

A cartoon dragon inked in
Rain and shadows stretched
Despondently across a sky
Of glowing turquoise and
Liquid gold.

I danced between emerald fields
Of clouds on legs as my
Magic carpet of metal and glass
Hurtled across a secret garden
I had forgotten was there.

Imagination is the most
Precious of metals: it can be
Forged into a better world when
One is needed, or it can
Alloy with the everyday to
Make magic.

Magic, indeed. You never lost it.
