Behold

by Richard Vince

Beauty is not just where we assume
We will find it. I will not refuse
To see it just because I do not expect it:
My heart will smile as I enjoy
Being surprised by the world.

Beauty cannot be hidden by scars,
No matter how deep. The light
Of life finds a way of illuminating
Dead earth, dead skin, so that we know
It was only sleeping.

Beauty is wherever our eyes and
Hearts are willing to see it,
Whenever we are open to let it in
To body and soul and life.

One man's beauty is another man's trash. I have always liked trash, it is always there just waiting to be seen, full of integrity. Your poem reminds me to stay humble, yet aware.
