Stomping on the Sky

by JJ Johnson

Stomping on the darkened sky as the world turns upside-down
My heart bleeds for her as I feel a deep need to speak for Mother Nature
To express the inferno raging in my soul, twisting out of control

The wind dried forests now burn in cascading firestorms
Ablaze she pleads in signals of smoke across the heavens
Because they will not listen to the language of global warming

Warnings in whispers on the winds of hurricanes and tornados
Echo unheard behind the laughter of the industrial plague infecting her world
The weight she carries on her back has made an Earth-shattering crack

Yet still not loud enough for one who refuses to hear her sobbing cries
Ignoring her teardrops as rains flood places now ravaged beneath rivers
Existing only because human kind has unkindly raped her bleeding womb

She calls to us to heal the wounds split open by greed's need for green printed paper
That began in life in the green that only nature can paper mountains with
Cut down to fill the gluttonous wallets sliced from the hides of her dearest children

Stolen from defenseless herds who died unheard just like her endless tears
Until the only way she can fight back is with thunder and lightning, wind and rain
Then in the dead of Winter there will be snow and sleet and frozen souls

And everyone and everything will sleep silently beneath tons of her cleansing ice
A new age will rage upon a crystalline desert while intelligent life hibernates
For ten-thousand years she will rest in peace until she sings, "Here Comes the Sun"
