Storm-front by Brian FrancisAs I lay awake thinking about the storms on the horizon
My thoughts seem to drift around memories of yesteryear
here and now I can feel it, feel it like a rumble
deep in the foundation of all that I hold dear
looking in the mirror I can see you in the hallway
there in your reflection I see the sadness in your eyes
Oh how I miss your smile the one that used to greet me
back when we lovers, before the deception and the lies
Can't we forget about the fighting the swearing and the cursing
Can't we just hold on to each other like we did so long ago
I don't want to join in the struggle, all the confrontation
Tears welling in your eyes, dripping, searing in my soul
The animals are quiet, in their neutral corners hiding
Cabinets closing harder than they really need to close
as you tramp about the house, anger simmered slowly
the whispered conversation as you polish up your prose
