By going straight ahead, she turns
Away from everyone else.
It is a feeling I remember better
Than some: wishing I could be
Someone else, but knowing
I had to be me.

Ends are only beginnings
We see from the wrong end;
Beginnings are not always positive.

It is easy to lose yourself
Somewhere like this: that is
Why I was here last time,
Hoping with every word I wrote
That I would lose my fear
Of being lost.

My voyage of discovery began
The usual way: with an attempt
To find myself. It continues with
A renewed attempt to be myself.

In her turning away, I hope
She never turns away from
Herself. If she does, I hope
She learns to turn back
More quickly than I did.
