My World

by Thomas K. Hunt

In my world, I was surrounded by family and friends
I grew up among the natives
Forged friendships that will never end

I slip back inside myself
Where thoughts appear without a sound
I collect them and lay them down
Thoughts that are only mine
Laid down to last for all of time

When I'm lost within myself
I come back to my world
It gives me peace of mind
It's where I spend most of my time

Laying words down to create a thought
Some I've sold, and some I've bought
They for sure came my way
Let me leave some for you today

Faces in a corner separated by miles
Smiling their warm eternal smiles
Moments framed in time
Images held in my heart so warm and kind

Reflections of faces full of cheer
that show the reasons why I'm here
Frames peacefully sit on the corner of the desk
along with heirlooms placed to reminisce

Moments preserved in time of love and laughter
Some faces remain, and some live in the hereafter
They serve their purpose by bringing warm smiles
Pleasant thoughts I haven't thought of in a while

I've spent my time on the run
I'll be home before my time is done
I belong with my pack of rats
Home is where I'll hang my hat

A day never passes without a thought of where I'm from
Remembering smiles and conversations
Remembering all the fun
That's where I'll watch my last setting suns
After all, I'm a native son

One more thought before I say goodbye
I caught this last one on the fly
Life can be short, or it can be long
Here today and tomorrow gone
Grab onto it and hold on tight
I hope you enjoyed this read tonight
